Captain Carter, who debuted in the first season of Marvel Studios’ What If…?, recently appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as an alternate variation of Peggy Carter. As fans recall, Peggy Carter has appeared in films and television series like Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Marvel’s Agent Carter, Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Ant-Man (2015).

Since Captain Carter’s appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, conversations have begun about the possibility of a live-action Captain Carter project being brought to life in the MCU. In a recently released episode of The DisInsider Show, Derek Cornell theorized that Marvel Studios may be developing a new project, either a Disney Plus mini-series or a big-screen feature, starring Captain Carter in all her glory. “Hot off of Doctor Strange 2 and What If…?, we are hearing not for sure if it’s a series, but we’re hearing [of] a Captain Carter live-action series,” Cornell said. “Series or movie, but something is in the works, live-action will be coming.”

Considering Captain Carter is an alternate version of Peggy Carter, she has a slightly different origin story. In Captain Carter’s reality, she is given the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers, causing her to build super strength and eventually wield the iconic Vibranium-metal shield as she fights to protect humanity from any threats that arise. However, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she was gruesomely killed by Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen), as Wanda Maximoff attempted to steal the power to travel through different realities from America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez). This being the case, if the rumors are true about the development of a Captain Carter fronted series or film, it will most likely be set before the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or in another universe where Captain Carter exists.

Marvel Studios continues to add more female lead projects to its catalogue like Ms. Marvel, which is coming to Disney Plus on June 8th, Agatha: House of Harkness expected in mid-2023 or early 2024, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is set to shift its focus onto Shuri (played by Letitia Wright). So, Captain Carter has a great chance of being added to the list as Marvel Studios continues to allow women to be seen and imagine that they can be heroes just like men.

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuing to dive deeper and deeper into the vast multidimensional universe that exists within the comics and now on-screen, it’s not too far-fetched to hold out hope that Captain Carter will return for more adventures. The character is already confirmed to appear again in the second season of Marvel Studios’ What if… ?, so maybe sooner than later Hayley Atwell will reprise her role and return to the big or small screen as her variation of the first to avenge.

What If…? season 1 is now streaming on Disney Plus.
